When jailbroken on your iPod Touch 2G, you’ll notice the more 3rd party apps you use, the more chance it’ll take up a lot of your battery. It’ll drink it like a soda. The reason for this is that when you open up an application it continues to constantly run in the background even after you hit the home button. More intense programs such as the NES ROMs app can really cut into your battery life. Here’s a few tips & tricks on how to preserve your battery life just how it was when it wasn’t jailbroken.
TIP #1:
To prevent your battery from really taking a hit after you use an application don’t just tap the hold button, hold it down for about 5 seconds and the application will quit for good. It will no longer run in the background and your battery life should last much longer.
TIP#2:
Some 3rd party apps (even official apps like Safari) run in the background. Install SBSettings from Cydia and then download the processes add-on and you can close those unused apps from there.
TIP #3:
Turn your brightness down a little to where you feel is comfortable. The higher the brightness, the more power it uses which equals less battery life.
TIP #4:
This one is obvious, but really affects your battery by A LOT. Please, when you’re not using WiFi or SSH, turn them off! Especially SSH. These two put together do not mix well.
TIP #5:
You can either purchase “Free Memory” in the App Store to free up to 20MB of memory or download a free app in Cydia called “MemTool” which frees up more than 20MB depending on the process running in the background. This helps your battery life tremendously.
