Semi-Tethered jailbreak released. It’s getting close!

February 11, 2009

A few hours ago, MuslceNerd gave us an update to redsn0w lite which is techincally tethered, but semi. Meaning, you CAN reboot your iPod this time around, however NONE of your jailbroken apps will work. To get them to run again, you’ll have to reapply the patch just like what you do to boot it up in it’s current state. This can be somewhat useful or pointless the way you look at it. It could be useful if you’re away from your computer and you happen to have to reboot your device. However, eventually you’ll have to put it in DFU mode again, and reapply the patch once you get back to your computer. So far, it’s not confirmed if applied themes will be affected.

Anyway, here’s a guide for both Mac & PC users on how to semi-tether your ipt2g.

Cydia crash solution.

February 3, 2009

Okay, there’s been some reports going on that Cydia is crashing when loading it up. This is an unknown cause, but you’ll have to do a few things before you can be up and running again. If none of these methods work, I suggest you SSH AptBackup to back up your Cydia apps. Because you will have to do a restore again! But, here’s a few methods to make this puppy up and running.

Read this!

If this didn’t help you, then I’m afraid you’ll have to re-jailbreak again. I just re-jailbroke my iPod because Cydia wasn’t working and their was no Cydia download on Installer. So far, Cydia is up and running for me? How about you?

1ClickBoot! Great for Rebooting Tethered JB.

February 3, 2009

If you jailbroke your iPod Touch 2G, and are scared to reboot, will now you shouldn’t. Yohurt, a member from iPodTouchFans created a simple tool for the people who need to reboot their tethered 2G’s. It’s called 1ClickBoot 0.5. When downloading this, you’ll even get DFUHelper, which automatically put your iPod in DFU mode. It’s great and it works. Here’s the link to download.

redsn0w *lite* released!

January 31, 2009
redsn0w lite = Tethered version

redsn0w lite = Tethered version

Mac  Users.

Read the Read Me CAREFULLY. (VITAL)
Use this at your OWN risk.

http://redsn0w.com/README.txt

And enjoy RedSn0w Lite here:
DevTeam Download Link: http://redsn0w.com/rslite101.zip
My Download Link: www.megaupload.com/?d=YVRY4XO

REMEMBER THIS IS THE TETHERED VERSION CURRENTLY FOR THE MAC OS! PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE ‘README.txt’ BEFORE USING THIS! A WINDOWS OR LINUX VERSION WILL PROBABLY BE MADE SOON.

NOTE: The iPhone Dev Team hasn’t given up on making an untethered version for all OS. This is probably to shut some people up. Since I do not own a Mac, I’ll have to sit out on this one and wait for a Windows version of redsn0w lite. I’ll keep you updated throughout the day. =]

UPDATE: A Windows .bat file has been released that will help any Windows users to TETHER jailbreak their 2G’s.

Click here to download the Windows version of the unofficial lite jailbreak.

If you have any questions, please register at iPodtouchfans.com

@Windows Users: This is just to help some people out who can’t seem to get a white screen.

Make sure you are in DFU mode.
DFU Mode is NOT iTunes logo with the USB.

**Connect your iPod Touch first before putting it in DFU mode**
You must HOLD YOUR SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON AND HOME for 10 seconds. Then let go of the Sleep/wake but still hold home button till you hear the Windows chime meaning it’s connected. You will know when it’s in DFU mode, when your ipod is black and can’t turn your ipod touch on or anything. Then do iRecovery -f <location of iBSS211.dfu>, disconnect then reconnect (no need for 10 sec wait), and your screen should turn white.

Hope this helped. Major thanks to MuscleNerd. I’m now jailbroken!

Safe to download 2.2.1 for ipt2g.

January 27, 2009

An official 2.2.1 firmware has been released today by Apple which only 3G users of the yellowsn0w unlock need to avoid. Jailbroken iPod Touch 1G should also be cautious before upgrading. It can erase it, although I’m not sure. Check the iPhone Dev Blog for a confirmation on this one. However, good news is you can upgrade your ipt2g with no problems. But, I’m going to wait it out for some reason. I can wait a few days. After all, the update isn’t worth upgrading anyway.

Until a lower-level (“hard”) unlock comes out, yellowsn0w users should *always* avoid official updates — they should only update through custom firmware IPSWs made through our various pwnage tools. These custom IPSWs can update your main firmware without updating your baseband (which would kill the yellowsn0w injection exploit).

- MuscleNerd

With that said, this could mean a delay with the iPhone Dev working on the ipt2g jailbreak. This means they’ll have to fix yellowsn0w for sure. Which sucks. Chronic Dev anyone?

UPDATE: This is what MuscleNerd has to say involving the 2.2.1 firmware released by Apple. He also discussed the ipt2g for a few minutes.

Watch it here.

0wnboot payload released![Not a jailbreak]

January 26, 2009

Chronic Dev has posted the 0wnboot payload to all who are experienced and know what they are doing, to help out and find a untethered or tethered jailbreak for themselves.

Click here to be directed to 0wnboot

“This is useful for any developers out there because it patches signature check, range check, permissions check, and more. This can be VERY dangerous if you do not know exactly what you are doing.”

In short, you can basically mess up your iPod Touch if you do not know what you’re doing. I personally am not going to fiddle with it because I’m the type that will make a small error that can lead to some serious problems along the way, so I will just wait till a tethered or an untethered jailbreak is finally released.

Chronic Dev is up to par with the iPhone Dev.

January 22, 2009

Posted on the Chronic Dev Blog, the Chronic Team is now up to the iPhone Dev Team’s level with the whole iPod Touch 2G status. King Chronic has been working with pod2g, ius, CPICH, westbaer, AriX, and some others dudes from some IRC chat.

They too have had major success with the arm7_go exploit.  However, just like the iPhone Dev Team, they still can’t get an untethered jailbreak. I seriously thought they were already up to par beforehand, but I’m assuming they  didn’t know what to do with the arm7_go exploit a couple of days/weeks ago.

Below is a video of how “0wnboot” works (This is their dubbed word for their “exploit” project). It won’t be out for testing or any of that sort, so I’m afraid we’ll still have to wait till a full untethered jailbreak is released.

0wnboot video

That’s it for now. I’m sure since now there are two dev teams working on this, we can speed this thing up and hopefully one of the two (or both) can find a hole at the bootrom.

redsn0w video demo released!

January 18, 2009

Check the latest video of the jailbreak below.

Click here now to watch the video demo!

After watching that video, I kind of get a feeling it will not be released tomorrow nor Monday unless they really work hard to patch it. The problem is, that you will have to connect your 2G to your computer everytime you shut it off. When you turn it back on, your 2G will not work unless you jailbreak it again. That’s a problem which I hope get’s fixed ASAP. Although I never turn off my iPod anyway – it shouldn’t be a problem for me. Oh well.

UPDATE: MuscleNerd just posted a follow up on the demo video which answers a few questions about the jailbreak & states that no one from the Dev Team will ever use Qik Live Chat. So if you see a user named “MuscleNerd” or “Dev Team”, then they are fakes.

Click here to view the follow up.

UPDATE #2: To all the people who are e-mailing me with questions like “The jailbreak will be released today! It’s Funday!!”, sorry to say, but it’s unlikely. The Dev-Team needs to finish this issue with saving the exploit when rebooting the iPod Touch 2G and then creating a GUI Tool for the people who don’t understand how to manually jailbreak their 2G’s. So, it defintely won’t be released tonight nor tomorrow. As for the other days, we’ll have to wait and see I guess. Until then, just make a list of your favorite Cydia apps. Winterboard FTW!

UPDATE #3: Here is a useful FAQ that will most likely answer any of your smart questions. Click here —> =]

2G Exploit found! Redsn0w will be available soon!

January 15, 2009

Well, the image  on the  “redsn0w” website was updated today, and to our surprise, it was the biggest giveaway of all to prove that this is infact, a 2G Jailbreak. The reason for that is the small circular image in the center of the star, shows the 2G iPod Touch’s new processor which the iPhone 3G does not have. You can even check out the iPhone Dev Team’s blog that states that it is not a 3G related project. Which is great news for the iPod Touch 2G users. MuscleNerd has confirmed that the jailbreak will be available to all in a couple of days.

We are guessing on Sunday (which is Funday for them) or I could be wrong. This is just speculation. Nevertheless, I thank them for jailbreaking the 2G in under an hour (MuscleNerd told me this himself)! But, I must give a HUGE thank you to the Chronic Dev Team for attempting to find the jailbreak. Without them, I don’t think the iPhone Dev Team would’ve even looked at the 2G.

Anyway, with that said, check this link out for a FAQ about redsn0w.

iPod Touch 2G Jailbreak redsn0w FAQ

By the way, you can bet that I’ll be sure to post a jailbreak review/guide of it as soon as it’s released! Also, since this jailbreak is finished, I’m no longer attempting for an exploit (for obvious reasons), so I will now change this blog name to a little more appropriate. Will think about a name change soon.

redsn0w may or may not be a 2G Jailbreak.

January 12, 2009

Last night, huge (and I mean HUGE) speculation went down which increased the iPodTouchFans infamous thread “State of the 2G Jailbreak:  A Summary” to have a huge uproar of 2G fanatics awaiting for redsn0w, (rumor is that it’s a 2G jailbreak by the iPhone Dev Team). It was supposibly supposed to be revealed last night at 12:00AM GMT, but that wasn’t the case obviously.

If you want to check out the lastest “image” updates, go to www.redsn0w.com and wait for something to happen. My suggestion is to just relax and you guys may be just hyping yourselves up way too much. This may not even be a 2G related thing here. For all we know, this can be a permanent 3G unlock for the iPhone.
